🎃 Trick or Trek: Halloween Hike & Geocache
Join Nebraska Trail Club on Saturday, October 31, for a Halloween hiking adventure at Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge!
We’ll explore both trails, take in the fall scenery, and make stops at two geocache locations along the way. Expect a longer hike, fresh air, and a fun way to spend Halloween outdoors with fellow adventurers.
Event Details
Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026
Start Time: 10:30 AM
Location: Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge, near Fort Calhoun, Nebraska
Distance: Approximately 7.9 miles total
Duration: Allow approximately 3–4 hours for hiking, potentially longer with stops
Difficulty: Plan for a longer-distance hike and be prepared to spend several hours on the trails.
Activities: Hiking, geocaching, and enjoying the fall scenery
What to Bring
Comfortable hiking shoes
Water and snacks or lunch
Weather-appropriate layers
A fully charged phone
Any personal essentials you may need for a longer hike
A Few Things to Know
Please arrive early enough to be ready to start at 10:30 AM. Check the weather beforehand and dress accordingly. Trail conditions and the actual distance may vary.
Costumes are welcome if you'd like to get into the Halloween spirit, but they should be comfortable and safe for hiking.

Six miles at Sunset
Join Nebraska Trail Club for a 6-mile sunset hike around Wehrspann Lake at Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Enjoy the fall scenery, fresh air, and an evening on the trails with fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Bring water, wear comfortable hiking shoes, and pack a headlamp or flashlight for the return hike after sunset.
Registration & Safety: Please RSVP through our website so NTC can plan accordingly. Participants who attend without registering may not receive event updates. By participating, you acknowledge that hiking involves inherent risks and agree to take responsibility for your own safety and preparedness.

Join Nebraska Trail Club for a 5-mile intermediate hike this Saturday!
This hike is intended for participants who are comfortable walking longer distances on natural trails. Please wear appropriate footwear, bring enough water and snacks, and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Join Nebraska Trail Club for our first official members-only event: Trail Club After Dark at Mahoney State Park on October 2.
Spend an evening exploring the outdoors with fellow NTC members while enjoying a guided nature experience, educational programming, and time to connect with the trail community. This event is designed to bring our members together, learn more about Nebraska’s natural spaces, and enjoy the trails as the day winds down.

Nebraska Trail Club Zoo Meetup 🦁🌿
Join Nebraska Trail Club for a casual community meetup at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium!
This is a relaxed opportunity to meet fellow trail lovers, connect with the community, and spend a day exploring one of Omaha’s most unique attractions together. There is no set itinerary — we’ll meet up, walk around the zoo, enjoy the exhibits, and get to know each other.
